[Critique] Kaytramine, Kaytranada and Amine

Before becoming the acclaimed composer who was invited to DJ at theafter party of the Met Gala by appearing behind the turntables alongside Janelle Monáe, the Quebecer Kaytranada was a beatmaker prized by the local hip-hop scene, and it is to these rap roots, as well as to the very roots of rap, that he returns by collaborating with the American MC Aminé on the project Kaytramine. Except for 4EVA (with Pharell Williams) and Sossaup (with the singer Amaarae), Kaytranada takes a step back from the funky and jerky house that has made its international reputation to embrace more relaxed rhythms on which the jovial Aminé pours out with the help of a handful of veterans, Freddie Gibbs, Big Sean and Snoop Dogg. Simply put, the album is listened to like a mixtape dancing and light, eleven well-crafted vignettes through which the duo gathers from a groove austere funk (Who He Iz) to minimalist trap (west side), before opening the shutters to let in the sun on RebukeThen eye and soul K.A. in conclusion.
