[Critique] “Hornsignal” by Haydn, Il Giardino Armonico, Giovanni Antonini

This disc is volume 13 of the “Haydn 2032” collection, a complete collection of symphonies being compiled for the tercentenary of the composer’s birth, striking by its sometimes caustic liveliness. The volume by which to get acquainted is undeniably the 10e, The hours of the day. This one, of equivalent level, has in common the highlighting of the individualities of Il Giardino Armonico in the variation finale of the Symphony noh 31, “Avec l’appel de cor”, which gives its name to a CD which elicited a special shout out to the photographer of the cover, Jonas Bendiksen, and to the fabulous section of natural horns conducted by Johannes Hinterholzer. The first part of the Symphony noh 59, “Fire”, shows the responsiveness of the orchestra and the extent of the dynamic palette, which are the hallmark of “Haydn 2032”. The program, very informed, around the scores, requiring an important contribution from the horns, also includes the symphony Maria Theresia and ends with a Concerto for horn and recorder by Teleman.
