[Critique] “Hold Me Closer”, Britney Spears and Elton John

A week that it does not come out of our heads. ” Hold me closer, tiny dancer…” Of course that’s the effect Almost Famous (the film by Cameron Crowe) and the episode of the Soviet in love with Bailey Quarters in the TV show WKRP in Cincinnati. Every time we use the song Tiny Dancer, since its creation in 1971, we have been seized by the jugular. Has the need to be hugged ever been better expressed? Elton John, touched by Britney Spears’ fight to exist without tutelage, found this way to signify to her, to her first, and to us then, that a hand can be stretched out between bruised celebrity. Lover Tiny Dancer to a dancing pop song is an inspired gesture, reminiscent of the Lady Di version of Candle in the Wind. He does too much, the Elton: new words get lost in the overload of sounds and effects, but the evocation of drunken nights in dark hotels manages to emerge in the great wave of overwhelming feeling. And it sticks to the heart.
