[Critique] “Compositions”, Pierre-Luc Brillant

Cinema, theater, song. These are worlds where he evolves, but it is not the whole universe of Pierre-Luc Brillant: classically trained guitarist, did you know? Seen from here, we were used to him being a collaborator first, in the service of works. Listening to their refrains so much, imagining him offering pieces in his name without his dear Isabelle Blais seemed more than unlikely. And yet, here Compositions. Which are not short soundtracks, but a lot of cinematographic tunes, framing landscapes, accompanying sequence shots according to walks in the making. Delicacy of the game, discreetly varied arrangements, it’s sweet without boredom. Glissandos a little pinkfloydians in the devil the clockMorriconnian intensity in the electric guitar ofFarewellghostly atmosphere in Funeral paradesingular detours in The jealousthere are a lot of things going on between the pickings for nylon strings. Everything is suggested: it’s up to you to imagine.
