[Critique] “Anhedonia”, Pierre Guitard | The duty

Anhedonia. A nice word, which looks like a first name. Thanks to Th. Ribot, psychologist from the 19th centurye, for the neologism. Thanks to Pierre Guitard for the light he shines straight on, illuminating this second album from the title. The word refers to “the loss of ability to feel pleasure and interest”. This disc, song after song, tries to warm up this malaise. In It wasn’t the first time, Pierre Guitard “invited happiness for supper”, happiness too busy to show up. In Even if we cry, “happiness has taken the edge”: the unfortunate is afraid of falling, but he stretches out his arms. We advance like this, from dead ends to gaps, we sneak “between here and the happy days” (another well-found title). Unlike the previous album, where the propensity to hum pop above the abyss was uncomfortable, Pierre Guitard has found a tone as just as his words, and his naturally beautiful melodies are imbued with melancholy. In doing so, when the light passes, we see it. Even we feel it. Premiere of the show at the Phi Center on November 9 as part of Coup de coeur francophone.
