[Critique] “A Mile In My Shoes”, Véronique Turcotte with Pierre Côté

Imagine a “souvenir”, available at the exit of the lounge bar, next to the restaurant. It’s a bit like that, Véronique Turcotte’s album with Pierre Côté. Something like the pleasant extension of a quality evening, without ostentation or great ambition. The first record of a singer-violinist that we did not know before. It so happened that we recognized his guitarist, Pierre Côté, a veteran, an ace. It was their tandem that attracted us. It couldn’t be bad. It is not. A repertoire that is disparate and without audacity to say the least, a little Beatles, a little Police, Eurythmics, mixed with Corcoran, Ferland, a few house tracks, all that gently jazzed up. Predictable, but in all delicacy, in all discretion. One could even say: an album designed not to disturb the clientele. Warm tone, impeccable instrumentation. Nothing to report, nothing to complain about. A little holiday outing, and then a record in my pocket. Why not ?
