[Critique] “16”, Greg Buchanan | The duty

Dark. This is the first word that comes to mind to describe the strange literary object that is 16… We discover, near a not so fashionable seaside resort, the carcasses of sixteen horses, mutilated, in a very precise order. The police officer in charge of the case is joined by a veterinarian, and they will both put more than a month, at the risk of their lives, to understand the terrible drama that happened there. Complex characters, disturbing – even disturbed! —, marvelously rendered by powerful writing. This is about lack of love and revenge, anthrax (anthrax) and guilty experiments, all in an astonishing style, even if one sometimes suffocates to read this first novel translated by a master’s hand. A kind of UFO a little hard on morale… but most certainly a writer of great talent
