vladimir Is Putin burying the last hopes of peace? The Russian president speaks Monday, February 21 in the evening. His decision is hardly in doubt after the Security Council held in the afternoon in the Kremlin. Surrounded by his highest dignitaries, he would have made his decision to recognize the independence of the separatist territories in eastern Ukraine. As with Crimea, Russia would therefore recognize that part of the Donbass would no longer belong to Ukraine. Two Russian-speaking territories that have made surrender in 2014 : the republic of Lugansk and the one at Donetsk. The separatist leaders demanded recognition and support from Moscow on Monday, February 21.
This thunderclap decision puts an end to the peace process initiated since 2015 in the region. It would constitute an attack on Ukrainian sovereignty. President Zelenskywhich has multiplied contacts with European leaders in recent weeks, is urgently requesting a meeting at the UN Security Council. The European Union must also meet urgently to trigger the massive economic sanctions promised against Russia in the event of an attack on Ukrainian integrity.
