Crisis in Ukraine: “the world is worried”, warns Jean-Yves Le Drian

Le 20 Heures receives, Tuesday, February 22, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, in order to question him on the crisis in Ukraine. In 24 hours, the shift has been clear: NATO is expecting a major attack tonight, and Washington wants to beef up its response against the start of an invasion.

The situation remains very serious. There are now 140,000 Russian troops on Ukraine’s borders“, explains the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, present Tuesday, February 22, on the set of 20 Hours. A situation made even more serious “after the decisions of President Putin concerning the establishment of two puppet republics (…) and the fact that, from now on, Russian military forces can come to these territories self-proclaimed republics“, continues the Minister.

Sanctions begin to be taken“, assures Jean-Yves Le Drian, however. They were announced by Europe during the day, as well as the United States, and all target Russia. Vladimir Putin is described as a president “permanently in ambiguity” by the minister. Asked about the possibility of the conflict in Ukraine becoming a global conflict, Jean-Yves Le Drian said: “The world is worried”.
