In France, 120 emergency services have limited their activities in the face of a lack of personnel. Some hospitals have even had to close them. This is the case in Chinon, in Indre-et-Loire.
For 15 days, the inhabitants of Chinon (Indre et Loire) find the door closed when they arrive at the emergency room of their hospital. The majority of caregivers are on sick leave, most for exhaustion. It is a blow for the inhabitants, who are sent back to the hospitals of Tours (Indre et Loire) and from Saumur (Maine et Loire)a 45-minute drive away.
The maternity ward is also closed. Laura Sallard25, is eight months pregnant. She was to give birth in Chinon, and the prospect of having to take the road urgently worries her. “Eastwe’re not going to have a baby coming on the road?“she wonders. General practitioners in the city are also worried. They fear that the closure of emergencies will cause a delay in patient care and fear finding themselves on the front line. On the evening of Tuesday May 31, 28 of the 32 emergency care workers are still on sick leave. The service therefore remains closed until further notice.
