The prosecution indicates this evening that an investigation has been opened for violence by a person holding public authority and failure to assist a person in danger, implicating three agents of the Nouméa municipal police.
The prosecution announces that it has carried out checks on the authenticity of the audiovisual recording. A video broadcast on social networks, “depicting a member of the security forces violently kicking a person in the head, in a sitting position on the ground, having just been arrested“.
According to the public prosecutor Yves Dupas, the first investigations “allow us to establish that this scene of violence took place during the night of May 25 to 26, at the 6th Km, opposite the establishment ‘la Cave’, following the arrest of several alleged perpetrators of an attempted theft“.
An investigation is therefore opened, for violence by a person holding public authority and failure to assist a person in danger. Facts which implicate three officers of the municipal police of Nouméa.
It was the management of the municipal police which sent a report to the public prosecutor, he assures, “by way of denunciation, on the basis of article 40 of the code of criminal procedure“.
The prosecutor assures him, “this procedure will be treated with all the rigor expected, regarding alleged acts of illegitimate violence on the part of agents responsible for administrative and judicial police missions.“.
This is the first procedure carried out for this type of incident since the start of the crisis in New Caledonia. The victim, for her part, must be contacted by investigators to undergo a medical examination and find out more about her state of health.
