Crash of an aircraft in Gaspésie: a septuagenarian loses his life

A septuagenarian pilot succumbed to his injuries after the crash of a small plane whose remains were found Thursday afternoon in the Maria sector, south of Gaspésie.

Still a lot of mystery hangs around this nebulous incident which occurred in a field near the rue des Hérons.

It is not known in particular when the aircraft, which is now a total loss, crashed. It was a citizen who discovered the wreckage of the aircraft shortly after 4 p.m. and who alerted the authorities.

The death of the pilot, a septuagenarian who was alone on board the aircraft, was confirmed on the spot. His identity should be revealed during the day.

“The Major Crimes Investigation Division of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) went on site to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy”, explains Hélène St-Pierre, spokesperson for the SQ.

Police officers, investigators and technicians from the forensic identification service also worked on the file during the night from Thursday to Friday. No assumption has been made on this subject for the moment.

The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) has also been notified.
