Three years after the fire of Notre-Dame de Paris, the restoration continues in the four corners of France. Wood, paintings, organs… nothing is forgotten in this project.

Three years after the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris, consolidation and security work was completed on Thursday April 14. At the heart of the cathedral, 1,200 tons of scaffolding. Throughout France, craftsmen are mobilizing to restore the cathedral. 1,200 remarkable trees were taken, they will be used to rebuild the framework and the spire of Notre-Dame. The pieces of wood will be delivered to the carpenters by the summer, before finding their place in the cathedral.

In Essonne, restorers are working on 22 monumental paintings. The oils on canvas, painted in the 17th and 18th centuries, have several layers of grime and soot. “Some of the paintings were very, very black. We thought at first that it could be linked to the fire, but not at all. In fact, these are pollutions”, explains Isabelle Chochod, restorer of works of art, DRAC Île-de-France shipyard. The organs of the cathedral are also restored.
