CPC Leadership Race | Leona Alleslev was unable to raise the necessary funds

(OTTAWA) Former Conservative MP Leona Alleslev says she failed to raise the thousands of dollars needed to run for the party’s leadership.

Mme Alleslev announced that she was no longer in contention for Erin O’Toole’s former job after the deadline closed for applicants to submit their $300,000 entry fee.

In a statement, the former MP said she was unable to raise all the necessary funds due to the short deadline given by the party to do so.

Leona Alleslev lost her federal seat in the Greater Toronto Area in last year’s federal election. She announced earlier this month that she would seek the top job.

She had served as deputy party leader after crossing paths with the ruling Liberals and eventually joining the Conservatives in 2018.

So far the party says six candidates have met all the requirements to be officially in the running when the Conservatives choose their new leader on September 10.
