CPC Leadership Race | Brown activists believe if it ain’t him, it should be Charest

(OTTAWA) A spokesperson for Patrick Brown says his campaign’s “grassroots activists” believe that if their candidate is not reinstated in the Conservative leadership race, then Jean Charest represents the best alternative.

Chisholm Pothier said Tuesday that Mr Brown spoke on a Monday night call to supporters, many of whom were “on the ground activists” in his campaign.

Mr Brown was disqualified from the race last week by the Leadership Election Organizing Committee, but he is trying to appeal the decision.

Mr. Pothier indicated Tuesday that the disqualified candidate “had praised Mr. Charest”, former premier of Quebec and former political mentor of Mr. Brown. The spokesperson adds that activists associated with the Brown campaign believe that Mr. Charest represents “the best option” if their candidate is not reinstated in the race.

Mr. Pothier did not want to qualify Mr. Brown’s message as official support for Mr. Charest’s candidacy.

It is unclear, however, what the Tory supporters Mr. Brown recruited by having them buy party memberships will do now during this leadership campaign.
