The Packers thus ended a five-game winless streak and did so at the expense of former head coach Mike McCarthy.

The Packers (4-6) looked set to lose a sixth straight game for the first time since 1988, when they trailed 28-14 in the fourth quarter. Rodgers, however, led two long drives that ended in touchdown passes to Watson.

McCarthy piloted the Packers to their last Super Bowl title after the 2010 season and posted a 125-77-2 record with Green Bay before being fired in 2018. It was his first game against the Packers since that he became the head coach of the Cowboys in 2020.

Rodgers was McCarthy’s starting quarterback for most of his reign with the Packers. Their relationship soured over McCarthy’s final seasons, but they exchanged compliments last week and hugged before and after the game.

The Cowboys (6-3) let slip a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter for the first time in club history. They entered the game with a 195-0 record in such games, including the playoffs.
