A few days before the end of the mandatory mask in most public places in Quebec, this is a great opportunity to compare the adoption of this public health measure in our country compared to elsewhere in the world.

According to data compiled by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, a research group based at the University of Washington, mask use is high in Canada and Quebec compared to other Western countries. However, adherence to this tool remains generally lower than in Asia.

Compared to other Canadians, Quebecers are more willing to wear the mask, even when the virus is circulating a little less. The difference — which is not just a matter of taste, but also of rules enacted by the government — was clear during the summer 2021 trough, and it has been so since the end of the winter 2022.
