Faced with the meteoric rise in COVID-19 cases in Quebec and the mounting pressure on the province’s health system, the premier, François Legault, presented Thursday evening a series of new health measures entering into force on December 31, at 17 o’clock. Here are the highlights.
- the curfew returns to Quebec and will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.. Fines ranging between 1000 and 6000 $ will be issued to offenders.
- Despite the approach of the New Year celebrations, the private gatherings will be forbidden.
- The dining rooms restaurants and the places of worship will have to close.
- First postponed to January 10, the Back to School in primary and secondary schools will once again be postponed to January 17. The same rule will be imposed on academic institutions and to cegeps. The courses scheduled by January 17 will therefore have to be held in line.

- The indoor sports will be suspended.
These measures are in addition to those in effect since December 20. Here they are again, as a reminder.
- The businesses must limit their capacity of customers by half.
- Bars, taverns, cinemas, performance halls, gyms, spas and casinos remain completely closed.
