The mayoress of Montreal, Valérie Plante, was placed in administrative segregation and had a screening test Friday after members of her entourage contracted COVID-19.
“Following a case of Covid in my entourage, I went to be tested this morning and I remain in administrative segregation,” wrote Ms. Plante on her Twitter account late Friday evening. “Like thousands of other city employees, I continue to serve our citizens from a distance,” she adds.
It is currently unknown whether the mayor is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and what her test result was. His name is in addition to that of several politicians who have had to place themselves in isolation in recent months due to the spread of COVID-19 in recent months.
The Minister of Education, Jean-François Roberge, in particular confirmed Thursday to have been declared positive for the virus, after being placed in administrative isolation on Monday.
“Public Health recommends that I be isolated until December 25 following a positive result for COVID-19, which I will obviously do,” he wrote on social networks.
The latest COVID-19 report, released on Saturday, reports 3,631 new positive cases in the past 24 hours. Two deaths and 35 new hospitalizations also add to this toll.
