The party first relayed information about Mme Normandin by press release Tuesday afternoon. It was then the only member of the political formation infected by the virus, a press secretary had confirmed.

Subsequently, a second press release was issued in the early evening to advise that Mr.me Michaud had also tested positive for COVID-19 following a rapid screening test.

The two deputies went into isolation at home while awaiting the result of a PCR test to confirm the diagnosis. They join a series of elected officials who have recently announced that they have been infected.

The day before, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, indicated that she had received a positive result for COVID-19 after having carried out a rapid screening test. She was also placed in isolation pending confirmation of a PCR test.

The Mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, the Minister of Education of Quebec, Jean-François Roberge, and the Mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson, have all announced in the past few days that they have been infected with the coronavirus.

According to the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec, the Omicron variant is now the dominant one in Quebec. It is responsible for 80% of new cases.
