COVID-19: Quebec reports 45 new deaths and an increase in hospitalizations

Forty-five deaths attributed to COVID-19 are added to Quebec’s balance sheet on Thursday, as well as 117 hospitalizations.

The number of hospitalizations now stands at 2,994, including 272 in intensive care, or 9 more than the previous day.

Some 8,793 new cases have been reported, a number which is however not representative of the situation since access to screening centers is restricted to priority clienteles.

A total of 43,457 samples were taken on Wednesday. The positivity rate in the province is 15.9%.

The balance sheet for Quebec is 775,720 people infected and 12,125 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

On the vaccination side, 4,504 Quebecers received their first dose on Wednesday, bringing the share of the population aged 5 and over who received a first dose to 90%. The Ministry of Health reports that 82% of those aged 5 and over received a second dose and 28% a third dose. Some 103,965 people picked up their third dose on Wednesday.
