COVID-19 | Quebec peewee tournament postponed to May

(Quebec) Faced with the rapid spread of COVID-19 and due to the measures currently in place, the management of the Quebec City International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament announced that the event scheduled for February will be postponed from 1er until May 15, 2022, under a new formula.

Everything indicates that the sanitary conditions will not allow to present a large-scale event, or even to be able to hold a simple hockey tournament in February, concluded those responsible for the event in a press release published early Thursday morning.

The organization says it continues to base its decisions on the same guideline: prioritizing the health and safety of all participants.

“It is very unlikely that the situation will resolve itself to the point where we can hold the tournament in February,” admitted Patrick Dom, general manager of the tournament.

“We believed in it until the end, but now, it is better to move forward with another solution. We have been evaluating the different alternatives over the last few days and the best option for us is really to postpone (to) the beginning of May. ”

After consultations with the various teams involved, volunteers, partners, funders and board members, among others, the vast majority are in favor of this change, according to the general manager of the tournament.

Under a modified format, from 1er on May 8, the AA-Elite, AA and A teams will play their games. From May 9 to 15, it will be the turn of AAA, BB and school caliber formations to jump on the ice.

“It wasn’t a simple task to move the tournament. Our biggest challenge was the availability of the Videotron Center. The schedule will be built through shows and parts of the Remparts de Québec. We have no other choice but to hold the event over two weeks to manage all of this, ”explains Dom, who says he remains very enthusiastic.
