COVID-19: Ontario to keep vaccination passport longer than expected

The Ontario government is expected to announce on Friday that it will extend measures related to the vaccine passport and make changes to the program.

A high-level government source said rules requiring COVID-19 vaccination certificates will not be lifted as of January, as originally planned in the province’s plan.

Rather, the measures will remain in place as they are until further notice.

The province has previously said its schedule for easing restrictions may be revised depending on the health situation.

The source indicates that the vaccine proof system will also be updated so that the certificate equipped with a QR code is the only version accepted.

The same source says Ontario will also move forward with a plan to have medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccines verified by public health units.
