COVID-19 | NFL Updates Protocols

The NFL updated its protocols in response to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the league on Thursday.

The league will promote booster shots as the most effective protection against the coronavirus.

The NFL now requires the wearing of a mask, regardless of vaccination status, as well as team meetings held at a distance or outside.

Team meals and visitors are also prohibited when traveling for a match abroad.

“Based on expert advice, we will adjust the rules of a return to activity for those who have recovered from COVID-19,” the league said, in a statement. The changes come from a science-based approach. Safety is our number one goal for the entire NFL community. ”

Browns quarterback Case Keenum, who was to replace Baker Mayfield on Saturday in Cleveland, against Las Vegas, will not be there because he has contracted the coronavirus, according to AP.

Mayfield himself tested positive for COVID-19.

The Browns should look to quarterback Nick Mullens, who is 2-6 in eight starts with the 49ers.

Three Bears coordinators have been sidelined due to protocols for Monday’s game in Chicago against the Vikings.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy mentioned that offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, defensive coordinator Sean Desai and special teams coordinator Chris Tabor attended virtual meetings this week. Their status is uncertain for Monday’s game.

COVID-19 hit the Bears hard this week, as several other teams grapple with positive drug tests. About 100 players across the NFL have tested positive.

The Bears have placed five players on the COVID-19 reserve list since Monday and they have placed six in total. Now some of their coordinators are in the protocols.

Players on the COVID-19 roster are blockers Larry Borom and Elijah Wilkinson, defensive tackles Eddie Goldman and Mario Edwards Jr., cornerback Artie Burns and linebacker Sam Kamara.

As a result, due to other more conventional illnesses and injuries, Nagy decided to hold optional training on Wednesday, rather than full training.

Nagy missed a game earlier this season against the 49ers of San Francisco – a 33-22 loss – due to COVID-19 issues and Tabor led the Bears.
