Israel has been a pioneer since the onset of the health crisis. Wednesday 22 December, the country has announced the start of a new vaccination campaign against Covid-19. Over 60s are going be able to receive a fourth dose.

A year ago, Israel was the first country in the world to vaccinate against Covid-19. Faced with the arrival of the Omicron variant, the country is anticipating again Wednesday, December 22, and authorizes a fourth dose of vaccine. “This decision was taken without too much scientific data, it’s a proposal, it’s something to be studied but we want to be ready if necessary”, explains Professor Cyril Cohen, immunologist. The fourth dose will be offered to people over 60, caregivers and people with co-morbidities.

The government seeks to avoid the hypothesis of containment. “Our aim is to defeat this new wave, while maintaining economic activity and education, as much as possible”, said Naftali Bennett, the Prime Minister of Israel. In the same spirit, the country has just closed its borders to all destinations in which the Omicron variant is present.
