In Belgium, new restrictions have been taken to slow the progression of the Omicron variant. It is no longer possible to go to the cinema, theaters or theaters. This is a new blow for the culture sector.
Thousands of demonstrators gathered in the afternoon of Sunday December 26 in Brussels (Belgium). They are protesting against the closure of theaters. The measure came into effect Sunday, December 26 across the country, while contaminations have been declining for nearly a month. The government pleads for caution 15 days before the start of the school year.
But for their part, professionals in the cultural sector denounce an aberration. “The whole cultural sector wants the measure to be reviewed and adapted to the real situation”, explains a Belgian protester. In a cinema room located in Tournai, Jean-Pierre Winberg was to organize a film festival in mid-January. But in front of the closed doors and without a reopening date announced, he fears having to cancel. Despite the anger of the cultural world, the Belgian government does not plan to reassess the situation before the beginning of January.
