Since some hours now, the authorities are also concerned about the arrival of a new variant of Covid-19, discovered in South Africa. France has just decided, like other European countries, to close its borders to seven African countries.
Suspended flights, panicked purses … The South African variant has barely made its appearance when it is already causing the greatest concern. The new variant is causing trouble. Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, affirms it: “he is placed under very close surveillance”. France has decided to immediately suspend arrivals from seven southern African countries, at least for 48 hours.
People who have traveled to these regions are encouraged to get tested as soon as possible. The UK, Germany and Italy have taken similar steps. Currently, the new South African variant has not yet crossed European borders. Globally, less than 30 cases have been officially detected, but it appears to be extremely contagious.
