Covid-19: Carl Girouard’s trial adjourned until Tuesday

Due to the contamination of a second juror with COVID-19, the judge adjourned the trial until next Tuesday to give himself a chance “to save the trial”.

After a first juror was expelled on Tuesday due to COVID symptoms, another nasty surprise awaited Judge Richard Grenier on Wednesday morning as a second juror tested positive, reducing the group to 10 members.

This could have serious consequences since the minimum authorized by the Criminal Code in the context of a criminal trial is ten. The trial could therefore have been aborted.

In order to give “a chance to save the trial”, the judge adjourned the proceedings until next Tuesday, taking advantage of the Easter holiday and therefore returning to 11 jurors on Tuesday.
