Faced with the fifth wave of Covid-19, Austria has decided to confine the two million people who are not vaccinated. From Monday, November 15, they will no longer be able to leave their homes without a good reason.

There will be unannounced checks in Austria, say the authorities, carried out by the police from Monday, November 15. The two million unvaccinated people in the country will need to have a valid reason to leave their homes: shopping, going to work or to the doctor. In the event of an infringement, the fine will be at least 500 euros, specifies the journalist Laurent Desbonnets, live from Vienna on Sunday evening.

The Federal Chancellor of Austria is the first leader in the world to take this radical step, applicable from the age of 12. Its objective is to speed up vaccination through pressure and incentive measures. Unvaccinated people were already banned from restaurants, hotels and hairdressing salons. But the health situation is deteriorating further: 13,000 new cases of Covid-19 Saturday. Only 65% of the population is fully vaccinated. In Salzburg or Vienna this weekend, anger is brewing. Hundreds of opponents denounced a dictatorship.
