COVID-19: a 4-year-old girl loses her life in Quebec

A 4-year-old girl died at CHUL due to circumstances related to COVID-19.

The CHU de Québec-Université Laval (CHU) made this announcement Monday, in the middle of the afternoon.

“The CHU de Québec-Université Laval regrets to announce the death at the CHUL of a 4-year-old girl due to circumstances related to COVID-19”, can we read in a short press release of three paragraphs to sadness.

According to the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale, this child is the youngest to die of COVID-19 in the territory of the greater Quebec City region since the start of the pandemic. The closest victim in age, who died in January 2021, was 29.

The CHU offered its deepest condolences to the girl’s parents and family.

The bereaved family and the CHU do not wish to comment on the situation.

“This news is incredibly sad. I would like to offer my most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of this little girl”, briefly commented on the Minister of Health Christian Dubé.

In December, a baby less than two months old died at CHU Sainte-Justine in Montreal after contracting COVID-19.

Since the start of the pandemic in Quebec, children aged 0 to 9 represent 9.3% of the number of detected cases of COVID-19. The hospitalization rate in this age group is only 1.6% and deaths are extremely rare, or even non-existent in INSPQ statistics.
