COVID-19: 56 new deaths and sharp drop in hospitalizations in Quebec

The number of hospitalizations in Quebec has dropped significantly over the past 24 hours, with 117 fewer people ending up in a hospital bed with COVID-19 on Thursday.

A total of 3,153 people remain hospitalized. The number of Quebecers in intensive care has also decreased (235, -17) since the day before.

The province also reported 56 additional deaths, while there were 73 in Wednesday’s toll.

In addition, 3,956 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected among people who have access to screening centers in Quebec.

Hospitalizations also fell in Ontario, where 3,645 people occupy a hospital bed (-371). The number of people in intensive care fell slightly (599, -9).

The death of 70 Ontarians, however, darkens the balance sheet of the province, where 11,230 people have lost their lives due to the virus since the start of the pandemic.

Also, 5,852 new cases have been identified in the most populous province, where access to PCR tests is also limited.
