Coupon ‘junkie’ wants to donate hundreds of groceries

A young woman from Saguenay who loves discount coupons is getting ready to donate hundreds of foodstuffs to people in need for the Holidays.

This is the fourth year that Amélie Grégoire has given herself this personal challenge. She spends two to three hours a day finding discounts and coupons in order to buy as many foodstuffs as possible for Moisson Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. She has spent at least a full day shopping every week since the end of September: according to her, the goods acquired represent approximately $14,000 and her purchases are not finished.

“It’s just a matter of helping. I’ve always been a generous person, so it’s really natural for me. I’ve been doing couponing for nine years, I’ve always helped those around me and made Christmas baskets. By donating it to an organization, I know that they will separate it fairly and give it to people in need, ”she explained.

Inflation makes it harder to find good bargains, she found. However, it can count on the generosity of several sponsors who offer prizes of all kinds. The coupon fan sells raffle tickets to those around him to inflate the amount of his purchases. It also solicits large companies to obtain discount coupons.

A precious gift

In addition to food, the Saguenéenne buys a variety of items that are useful on a daily basis. “Moisson Saguenay told me this year that there was a shortage of personal hygiene products, so I bought a hundred shampoos, household products, mosquito repellent and baby milk. These are more expensive products.

At Moisson Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Amélie Grégoire’s initiative is more than welcome. “His donations are truly appreciated every year. People more often give us non-perishable food, but for personal hygiene products, the population is not always aware that it is part of our needs too, “said Yanick Soumis, the general manager of the organization. This contribution is all the more significant at a time when fewer citizens are giving in the context of inflation.

The “couponuse” will give her donation on December 16 and invites citizens who can to encourage her to increase the ton of food she intends to offer.
