Sold illegally on social networks or even on encrypted messaging services, these tickets are close to perfection. Counterfeiters use methods of operation to deceive the vigilance of the authorities.
Banknotes mainly made in Italy
The authorities are trying to trace the ways in which counterfeit notes are manufactured. “Traditionally, the counterfeit money present in France mainly comes from Italy, and in particular from the Naples region, where criminal groups have specialized in the production of counterfeit money”, specifies the head of the Central Office for the Suppression of Counterfeiting, Yannette Bois. In 2022, half of the 376,000 counterfeit notes seized in France came from Italy.
