Due to lack of personnel, deliveries will be suspended from April 26 at the Guingamp maternity hospital, for a period of at least two months. Some will have to travel forty minutes by car to be taken care of.

Laurence is expecting twins. Seven months pregnant, she should have given birth not far from her home, at Guingamp hospital (Cotes-d’Armor). Issue : in nine days, the maternity closes, for two months minimum. I’m not worried about my birth per se, but it’s just that we would like to be quiet, and focus on the pregnancy until the end“, declares the mother-to-be. It may be possible to be welcomed half an hour away, in Saint-Brieuc or Lannion, without any certainty for the moment.

Chronic shortage of medical personnel

For five years, the Guingamp maternity hospital had been suspended due to a chronic lack of medical personnel. Only half of the obstetricians and midwives are present this year, and one in three anesthesiologists does not provide night duty. Difficult in these conditions, to recruit new caregivers. The unions fear that this temporary closure will becomes final. In February, in the streets of Guingamp, the inhabitants had already mobilized against this project.
