A woman was seriously injured in Coteau-du-Lac, in Montérégie, after her car was hit by a VIA Rail train Monday morning.
The collision took place around 7:45 a.m., on Chemin de la Rivière-Delisle Sud, almost an hour after the departure of the train which was providing the Montreal-Toronto connection, according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
There are fears for the life of the victim, who was hospitalized.
No one was injured on board the passenger train, which came to rest on tracks after the incident.
The SQ deployed investigators to the scene to understand the circumstances that led to this collision.
According to preliminary information collected by the SQ, it appears that the van was crossing the railway tracks, and that it was not stopped on them, at the time of the collision, but no other information was available. available immediately.
“No hypothesis has been put forward at the moment, namely whether there was inattention on the part of the driver, or whether there was a malfunction in the elements which announce the arrival of the train”, said Sergeant Louis-Philippe Ruel, who is spokesperson for the provincial police force.
