A 29-year-old woman has been charged with intentionally and premeditatedly killing her 5-year-old son. She appeared Tuesday afternoon at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse.
The young woman appeared by videoconference, from her hospital bed. With a blanket over her shoulders, she seemed calm and understood what was happening. She made no comment.
A publication ban prevents us from revealing her identity, to protect the victim’s identity. She is expected back in court later this week.
On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, emergency services were called to assist a 5-year-old boy found unconscious in a residence on Chemin du Fleuve, in Coteau-du-Lac. He was pronounced dead on scene. The exact cause of the child’s death has not been revealed.
Investigators from the Sûreté du Québec’s crimes against the person team and forensic identification technicians went to the scene to analyze the scene and try to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the death. The scene was protected to preserve evidence.
“The case is still under investigation, several witnesses still need to be met,” stressed Mr.e Kim Émond, prosecutor at the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions.
