No one seems to have been injured, according to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), which reported no arrests at the end of the night.
The incident was reported around 1:45 a.m. by a person who called the 911 emergency center. He first appeared to have attacked a car parked near a building on Barclay Avenue, near the intersection of the Wilderton Avenue, in the Côte-des-Neiges district.
Firefighters on the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SSIM) had to extinguish the flames on the automobile, which is however a total loss. They also contained the damage caused by the flames to the building and the moped next door.
The remains of the car had to be towed away after the fire so that investigators from the SPVM arson squad could examine them.
