Corsica: “We have to know how to build compromises”, believes Corsican nationalist deputy Félix Acquaviva

Traveling to Corsica on Thursday September 28, Emmanuel Macron opened the door to empowerment of the island. “He eIt’s obvious that strong words were said. He believes that there is “an indisputable democratic fact for a demand for responsibility”. “This democratic request was heard by Emmanuel Macron, who does not say yes to everything. But in politics, when you take a democratic fact, you have to know how to build compromises, otherwise, it’s war. We are not fans of war. We are fans of a plan, of a construction.”

A constitutional reform

A modification of the Constitution would be necessary for greater autonomy for Corsica. On this subject, the elected official indicates: “There will be hurdles and gathering arrangements to be made for constitutional reform. This will require an expansion of convergence in Corsica, but we are not far from it.”

The parliamentarian concludes: “I believe that everyone took this speech as a breath of fresh air and a pledge of hope to find the conditions for this historic compromise through constitutional reform and organic law. (…) Corsica deserves its place in the Constitution, to avoid telling young people that they are going to be dispossessed by speculation or that their tongue goes disappear.”
