For the first time, the government says it is ready to go as far as Corsica’s autonomy, while the executive has refused to do so until now. The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, is also expected on the island, Wednesday, March 16, following the violence after the attack in prison of Yvan Colonna. How do we react on the spot to this turning point?

One word, in one of the regional daily, and in all conversations: autonomy. Or, in any case, discussions in this direction. An announcement that is not necessarily unanimous in Ajaccio on Wednesday March 16. “It’s a little bit to rush things”, according to a resident. So, what could change on the Isle of Beauty? If the State will retain the sovereign powers, such as the police or justice, there are other areas where the Corsicans would like to be autonomous, such as transport.

Ajacciens put forward other examples, such as the autonomy of water. “Bringing life to the island, rather than living than tourism”, offers a room. Reducing real estate pressure is undoubtedly one of the strongest expectations on the island. According to the Minister of the Interior, second homes represent nearly 40% of the market today. The discussions promise to be long and difficult, and it will take time to achieve a real autonomous status for Corsica.
