Météo-France has placed Southern Corsica and Haute-Corse on orange wind alert for the day of Saturday, December 2. The forecaster mentions a “stormy episode (…) not exceptional, but requiring particular vigilance”. It should be more extensive and stronger than the recent episodes of November 16 and 28, she continues.

“Gusts of the order of 120 to 150 km/h will sweep through the inhabited areas of Balagne, the east of the island, and the low and medium mountains. At the levels of capes Corsica and Sagro, we will probably exceed the 180 km/h.” A lull is expected in the evening.

Five departments in orange this Friday

Haute-Savoie, moreover, is concerned by an orange vigilance for “floods” for the day of Saturday. This department is targeted by an alert on Friday for rain and flooding, alongside Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Savoie and Isère.

Météo-France announces cumulative rainfall of up to 200 mm in the Southern Alps. “To these accumulations will be added part of the mid-mountain snowmelt, an aggravating factor for runoff”adds the agency.
