Corsica is the region where people live the longest in Europe. Is there a secret to this longevity?

Corsica knows how to offer idyllic and varied landscapes, but the island of beauty is also the island of longevity. 84 years of life expectancy for men and 87 years for women is a record on the Old Continent according to a European study. Among a group of hikers, everyone has their explanation. Diet, nature, active grandparents… Several reasons are given.

7 to 10 km of hiking per week

The idyllic living environment has prompted retirees to come and settle in Corsica. “Happiness is there, 150%. If I had to do it again, I would do it again”, explains one of them. In order to keep in shape and not to belie the statistics, this group of hikers hikes 7 to 10 km per week. A sign that longevity rhymes with insularity, Corsica is one of the oldest metropolitan regions: almost a third of its population is over 60 years old.
