The miracle did not happen. To qualify for the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League, Paris FC had to beat Chelsea on the final day of the group stage, Tuesday January 30, and hope that BK Häcken did not win in the same time on the pitch of Real Madrid. But even before knowing the outcome of the other match, the Parisiennes scuttled their chances on the pitch at the Charléty stadium.

In front of a mass audience – following the appeal of the players on social networks -, Paris FC was simply outclassed by Chelsea (4-0). Untouchable, the English have thus secured first place in this group D. With seven points on the clock, Paris FC finishes third behind BK Häcken (11 points) and ahead of Real Madrid (one point).

A record attendance

Parisians barely had time to believe it. Despite a coherent start to the match, the PFC was surprised from the tenth minute of play on the first offensive of the Blues : a cross from Cankovic headed by Kirby, in the middle of a hesitant defense (10th). Already uninspired on the first goal, Parisian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was at fault on the second: another header, this time from Fishel, slipped between her legs (37th).

Applauded by the public upon returning to the locker room, the Parisiennes did not, however, manage to raise their heads afterwards. So Chelsea hit the nail on the head, without forcing, through the Norwegians Guro Reiten (74th) and Maren Mjelde (79th), on two confused actions. Final score: 4 to 0 for Chelsea, and a bitter elimination for Paris FC, at the end of a memorable European epic. The only reason for satisfaction for the PFC: the 13,274 spectators present at Charléty, a new record for the club which no longer charges its public.
