Prince Harry, withdrawn from the British monarchy, will attend the coronation of his father Charles III on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London, but without his wife Meghan and their children, Buckingham Palace announced on Wednesday.
Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, will be at the coronation of his father, Charles III. But he will come alone, without his wife Megan Markle.
The news was announced on Wednesday morning by Buckingham Palace, which said it was “delighted to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey on May 6. The Duchess of Sussex will stay in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet [leurs enfants] “.
Prince Harry and Megan Markle have also confirmed the news.
Family relations are icy between the royal family and the Sussexes, who, in recent years, have multiplied shock confidences on Oprah and on Netflix. To this was added at the beginning of the year the biography The Alternatein which Harry unpacks his bag even further and ramps up the criticism of his family members.
That said, whether or not she would attend her father’s coronation had been the subject of speculation in Britain for months.
This decision of the Sussexes does not however solve the puzzle of the coronation. Several other questions remain unanswered, such as knowing the role that will be assigned to Harry and, quite simply, the bench that will be assigned to him at the Abbey on D-Day.
Harry is no longer a working member of the royal family and so he was not invited to appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace in June, during the Jubilee celebrations of Queen Elizabeth, his grandmother.
Harry and Meghan are also homeless in the UK. Last month, shortly after the publication of the biography written by his son, King Charles III announced that he was withdrawing the use of Frogomre Cottage from them.
