Corey Schueneman gets contract extension from Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens have granted defenseman Corey Schueneman a one-year, two-part contract extension.

The deal, which is worth $750,000 in the NHL, will net Schueneman $350,000 in guaranteed salary. He will earn $275,000 if he plays in the American League.

Schueneman, 26, had two goals and four assists in 24 games with the Canadiens last season. He scored his first career goal on March 17 against the Dallas Stars.

The American also had four goals and seven assists in 32 games with the Laval Rocket in the regular season before helping his team reach the Calder Cup conference final with one goal and three assists in 15 playoff games. .

Schueneman has 45 points (11 goals, 34 assists) in addition to having served 49 penalty minutes in 118 games with the Rocket and the Stockton Heat in the AHL.

Never drafted, the defender will be in his fifth season as a professional. He wore the Western Michigan University Broncos uniform from 2015 to 2019, serving as captain in his final season with the team.
