The Corbeil-Essonnes hospital, victim of a cyberattack at the end of August, had not paid the ransom demanded by the hackers. They took revenge by disclosing confidential documents.

Requests for medical examinations, operating reports… several confidential documents were revealed by the hackers who attacked the Corbeil-Essonnes hospital at the end of August. These hundreds of thousands of pieces of information are visible on the dark net and were published because the hospital had refused to pay the ransom of two million dollars, as requested by the French authorities.

The group named Lockbeat had threatened to release this information if they weren’t paid. “Today these hackers are posting this to scare others”, explains Damine Bancal, specialist in cyberintelligence, founder of the Zataz site. On the hackers’ site appear the names of other companies. The medical sector is increasingly targeted, as stolen data can be used to blackmail victims. “Everyone is worried, obviously, we don’t want to see everyone unpacking (…) their personal data”indicates Franck Banizette, SUD health union, southern Ile-de-France hospital center.
