Copa America | Mathieu Choinière and Samuel Piette selected for the Canadian team

(Montreal) CF Montreal midfielders Mathieu Choinière and Samuel Piette have been selected by Canada for the final squad which will participate in the 2024 Copa America.


The Montreal duo has already been with the national team since the beginning of the month as part of the June international break. New coach Jesse Marsch’s team first suffered a 4-0 defeat against the Netherlands on June 6, before playing a 0-0 draw against France in Bordeaux on June 9, in two preparatory friendly matches.

Choinière played 19 minutes as a substitute in the first match, while Piette played 11 minutes, also as a substitute.

In his senior national team career, Choinière has three caps, while Piette now has 69.

This will be Canada’s first participation in this tournament. Canada (Group A) will play its three group stage matches on June 20 against Argentina in Atlanta, June 25 against Peru in Kansas City and June 29 against Chile in Orlando.

Three other Quebecers were selected for the tournament, namely Moïse Bombito, of the Colorado Rapids, Maxime Crépeau, of the Portland Timbers, and Ismaël Koné, of Watford FC, in England.
