Presented as the summit of the last chance in the face of global warming, the COP26 should, in principle, end on Friday 12 November. France has so far taken an important decision concerning fossil energies.
An unexpected decision was taken on Friday November 12, the last day of the COP26, in Glasgow, UK. France has announced that it will no longer invest, from 2022, in fossil fuels abroad. “Finally, we are going to tackle the end of fossil fuels. It’s not easy, you know, because the whole world is being asked to get out of this addiction”, Commented Barbara Pompili, Minister of Ecological Transition.
France no longer wishes to put money into the energies responsible for global warming. It thus joins some thirty countries and development banks. The associations are pleased, even if they remain cautious about the details of this commitment. “We are very happy that France has jumped on the bandwagon”, Confirms Aurore Mathieu, responsible for international policies for the Climate Action network. Other real advances took place during this conference.
