COP15: 12 demonstrations, but no arrests, according to the SPVM report

At the end of the United Nations Convention on Biodiversity (COP15), the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) draws up a positive assessment of its interventions to ensure security during this world-class event.

“COP 15 represented a colossal challenge for the organization due to its international scope and the short time available to the SPVM and its partner organizations to prepare for it. This success is attributable to the high level of preparation of the SPVM and the work carried out in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), which was responsible for the coordination of the Integrated Security Group (GIS), as well as several other partners. in particular let the Montreal police know by press release.

Despite the holding of 12 demonstrations against COP15, everything went peacefully. No arrests were made in connection with these demonstrations, but two investigations were opened in connection with misdeeds committed on businesses.

In order to ensure safety and in a desire to prevent vulnerable populations, daily patrols around the Palais des Congrès and the Old Brewery Mission were carried out.

The SPVM wanted to highlight the collaboration of the various police forces, but also of its partners, such as the City of Montreal, the borough of Ville-Marie, the Société de transport de Montréal and Urgence-Santé.
