The Municipality issued a warning on its social networks Thursday morning. The first protesters, from outside, are expected at the end of the day.

“During the passage of the convoy of truckers scheduled for February 3 to 6 in Quebec, traffic disruptions are to be expected downtown,” writes the City on its Facebook page.

The authorities recommend that those who intend to head for the area take the buses of the Capital Transport Network instead.

Already, the City has deployed trucks on Honoré-Mercier Avenue, which are parked in such a way as to prevent any traffic towards Parliament.

The sector is already occupied by several sites of the Carnival of Quebec, which must take off at the end of the week, when certain streets around the parliament will be closed to traffic.

Services maintained downtown

The City of Quebec has also announced that it will maintain services to citizens downtown and in Old Quebec, despite the demonstrations.

Staff will be deployed in the field to maintain access to businesses, with the help of the SPVQ. The activities of the Carnival of Quebec, planned from Friday, “still take place”, we recall in a press release.

The House of Literature (at the corner of rue Dauphine and rue Saint-Stanislas) as well as the Claire-Martin library (on rue Saint-Jean) will also remain open.

Garbage and snow removal

Garbage collection in Old Quebec “will take place according to the usual schedule”, can we read in the press release, but the City is asking citizens to take out their containers an hour earlier, at 6 a.m. rather than 7 a.m., in order to allow the collection to start a little earlier.

In the event of a snow removal operation, the arteries will be cleared of snow as usual but “if it is not possible to do so, our teams will pass as soon as they are free of any obstacle”, it was specified. .

Finally, the City encourages citizens to use the Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC) buses to get downtown this weekend. Before planning a trip, however, it would be wise to consult the RTC website to find out about changes to the usual routes or delays on the network.
