Convoy of truckers: Doug Ford declares a state of emergency

Ontario Premier Doug Ford declared a state of emergency on Friday, a move that will allow police forces to issue fines of up to $100,000 to people blocking the transportation of goods and people, as is the case in Windsor.

About 100 protesters have been blocking the lanes of the Ambassador Bridge, which links Windsor to Detroit, since Monday evening. “This will not interfere with the right to demonstrate,” promised the Prime Minister during a press conference on Friday. A hearing is also held at noon before a judge of the Superior Court to determine whether the police will be able to move the demonstrators.

During the same announcement on Friday morning, the Premier also let it be known that almost all health measures for businesses in the province could soon be lifted. “The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore, is working on a plan to remove the vaccine passport,” Doug Ford continued.
